Steven Spielberg returned to one his most immediately iconic characters in this prequel to Raiders of the Lost Ark that features a slightly younger, still fearless Indiana Jones as he travels across the globe fighting crime bosses and murderous cults.  Escalating the violence of the first film and going with darker themes, Spielberg gives us several films at once: a musical in the opening sequence, a horror film, and an almost-literal roller-coaster ride.  Featuring great work from Harrison Ford, Ke Huy Quan, and Kate Capshaw, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom caused some controversy on its way to becoming the highest-grossing film of 1984.
