MONDAY, FEBRUARY 10 @ 7PM
Movies are a business, and each week we’re told how films did at the box office. For the first Trivia Night for this year, we’re going to look at the films that were hugely successful financially in the United States. Some are long-remembered, beloved classics, and others have faded to obscurity, but at one point, they all sold lots of tickets!
BOX OFFICE TOP 10
TRIVIA NIGHT
FULL CALENDAR
04/14 - Films of Tomorrow (movies that predicted the future)
The arts have always provided opportunities to explore where human society might be going. From fantastic new technologies to bleak dystopias, film often presents our possible tomorrows in uniquely powerful ways. Over the decades, movies such as Metropolis to Logan’s Run to Back to the Future Part II to Children of Men have shown us the future, and we’ll be looking at the films that have tried to tell us where we’re going with varying degrees of success!
06/02 - Movie Quotes
Many of us have friends who can’t stop quoting their favorite lines from the movies they’ve seen. Many of us are those friends. Movie quotes can help a film connect with wider audiences, keep them part of the popular consciousness, and are sometimes quoted when the quote never actually existed. We’ll be asking about quotes from a wide variety of films, probably starting a new wave of those quotes being used around town!
08/08 - School Movies
As summer comes to a close, students and school staff start looking to the year ahead. School has been the setting for some of our most powerful coming-of-age films, musicals, comedies, horror stories…it’s a surprisingly versatile source of material! We’ll ask about the inspiring, the frightening, the funny, whatever school has meant to filmmakers!
10/13 - Monster Films
For our annual night of horror trivia (on the 13th, even!), we’ll be looking at the monsters that have long populated film, going back over 100 years (the original Nosferatu was released in 1922!). Some of these monsters have come from the skies, some from parts unknown, and some were made by man. Some have been scary, some predictable, some a bit cheesy, but they provide a great time at the movies!
12/01 - Holiday Movies
Our annual celebration of the holiday season will once again feature questions about films from the winter holidays as well as other festive times of the year! This is always a fun and popular night of trivia, and a great way to end another year of games at the Milford Independent Cinema!
