2025 Classics Calendar

1/27-Blackboard Jungle (70th Anniversary)

In this classic school drama, Glenn Ford stars as an idealistic New York City teacher who refuses to give up on his troubled students even when faced with the dangers of juvenile delinquency. Notable for sparking the rock-and-roll revolution of the 1950s with its use of “Rock Around the Clock” by Bill Haley and His Comets, this film boasts a solid cast of young talent including Vic Morrow and a break-through performance by Sidney Poitier.

3/24-The Courtship of Eddie’s Father

Ron Howard plays precocious Eddie Corbett, a boy determined to get his widowed father Tom (played wonderfully by Glenn Ford) remarried in this charming romantic comedy. Featuring Shirley Jones, Jerry Van Dyke, and with uncredited appearances by Ron Howard’s family members Clint and Rance Howard, The Courtship of Eddie’s Father was later adapted into a popular sitcom with Bill Bixby stepping into Glenn Ford’s role.

5/12-3:10 to Yuma (1957)

Based on a story by notable Michigan author Elmore Leonard, 3:10 to Yuma follows a small-town farmer (played by Van Heflin) who is hired to escort dangerous outlaw Ben Wade (played with cool precision by Glenn Ford) to a train that will deliver him to prison. Inducted into the National Film Registry in 2012, this beautifully shot Western classic is full of suspense and thrills that will keep the audience on the edge of their seats!

7/14-The Big Heat

Dedicated homicide detective Dave Bannion (Glenn Ford) takes on a crime syndicate that holds power over the police force in this classic noir film by Metropolis and M director Fritz Lang. Featuring cold-blooded criminals, sultry women, and a captivating plot, this National Film Registry-inducted film makes for one of the greatest noir movies and Lang’s American masterpiece.

9/8-Gilda

A National Film Registry film and one of the most popular film noir movies of all time, Gilda stars Rita Hayworth in her iconic role of femme fatale Gilda Mundson, wife to a criminal kingpin (George Macready) and former flame to his henchman (Glenn Ford), as she drives both men mad with jealousy and desire. Hayworth and Ford’s on-screen chemistry is evident as they were deeply engaged in an affair during the film’s production. Add in the unique visuals of the glittery casinos of Buenos Aires, and this makes for a one-of-a-kind steamy and romantic movie.

11/10-Cimarron (1960) (65th Anniversary)

Celebrating its 65th anniversary, this Western epic follows cowboy adventurer (Glenn Ford) and his wife (Maria Schell) as they venture through the Oklahoma land rush of 1889.
