Milford Indepednent Cinema is proud to present a special event showing of Schindler’s List with special guest, Ruth Bergman of the Zekelman Holocaust Center, Tuesday, September 10 at 6PM.
Spielberg won his first Best Director Oscar for this agonizing and powerful portrayal of the horrors of the Holocaust. Based upon Thomas Keneally’s novel Schindler’s Ark, it tells the story of the real-life Oskar Schindler (played by Liam Neeson) and the work he and others would do to eventually save 1200 Jews from death. Using stunning black and white photography, a John Williams score highlighted by a performance from Itzhak Perlman, and an unrelenting eye in recording the violence and inhumanity of the Holocaust, Spielberg cemented himself as not only a great storyteller but an important director.
Ruth Bergman is the Director of Education at The Zekelman Holocaust Center. Ruth oversees museum education and tours for students and adults as well as teacher training workshops conducted throughout the state of Michigan. She earned her BA from Columbia University and did graduate work at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. Ruth completed a certificate in Jewish Leadership for Educators from Spertus Institute for Jewish Learning and Leadership certificate in nonprofit leadership from the Kellogg School of Management. Before coming to The Center, Ruth was a teacher and teaching coach.
