Based on the 1964 stage musical of the same name, 1971’s Fiddler on the Roof tells the story of Tevye (played by Topol), a poor Jewish milkman, as he tries to marry off his five daughters. Filled with many famous musical numbers, including “If I Were a Rich Man”, and with an Oscar-winning score adapted by John Williams, Fiddler on the Roof made a film star of Topol, who would go on to perform the role of Tevye over 3000 times!
