Catch Me If You Can shows Spielberg in his humanistic, empathetic mode.  Set during the 1960s, which allowed Spielberg to indulge in that decade’s distinctive design choices (the costumes alone are incredible), Catch Me If You Can follows Frank Abagnale (Leonardo DiCaprio) as he cons his way through life using fake checks and passing himself as a doctor, lawyer, and pilot.  He is pursued by and eventually establishes a relationship with FBI agent Carl Hanratty (Tom Hanks).  An exhilarating film anchored in strong performances (including an Oscar nominated turn by Christopher Walken as Frank’s father), Catch Me If You Can shows Spielberg as a mature, master filmmaker.
